MERCED, Calif. (AP) - A man wanted in connection with the killing of a Central California man during a home robbery has been arrested following a car chase in Oakland.

Merced police Lt. Jay Struble said investigators tracked 28-year-old James Martin to Oakland and conducted surveillance on the suspect. He said when officers tried to pull over the car he was riding in, the suspect and two others led the officers on a chase that ended in a crash.

Martin was taken to Merced County jail early Saturday and booked for investigation of murder.

Witnesses told the Merced Sun-Star that a group of assailants went into a Merced house Friday morning, stole a safe and shot a 34-year-old man. Struble said the man gave first responders information about the suspects before succumbing to his injuries.
